Free AI visibility audit tool: where to find one

What a free check covers, what it misses and how to run your own test today.

By CoreTxt · Updated October 31, 2026

The easiest free AI visibility audit tool is a website scan that checks whether AI assistants can read and understand your site, plus a manual test where you ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude the questions your customers ask. CoreTxt offers the scan as a free AI Visibility Snapshot, with no credit card.

Where to find a free AI visibility audit

There is no single free tool that does everything. A complete picture takes two kinds of checks: one that looks at your website, and one that looks at what the assistants actually say. Here are the free options, in the order we would use them.

1. A free website readiness scan

This checks the technical signals assistants rely on. The CoreTxt AI Visibility Snapshot is our free version. You give us your business name, website, service area and industry, and we scan your site. It takes about a minute to start and needs no credit card. You get:

  • An AI readiness score out of 100.
  • Whether AI crawlers can reach your site.
  • Whether you have structured data that identifies your business.
  • Your llms.txt status.
  • Your biggest single blocker, so you know what to fix first.

We built the Snapshot, so weigh that when you read this guide. It is free, and it is a technical check. It does not ask the assistants questions about your business. That part is in the paid Deep Audit, or you can do it yourself in step 2.

2. A manual test in the assistants themselves

The free versions of ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude are enough to start. Write five to ten questions a customer would ask, such as “best family dentist in Austin” or “who should I call for a roof leak in Denver,” and ask each assistant. Record whether you are named, what it says about you, and who is named instead. Our guide on how to test if AI recommends your business has a recording sheet and example questions.

3. Bing Webmaster Tools

Microsoft’s free Bing Webmaster Tools includes an AI Performance report, in beta at the time of writing, that shows when your pages are cited in Copilot and Bing’s AI answers. It is real data from Microsoft, but it covers Microsoft’s AI only. It does not show clicks or which competitors were cited next to you. Add your site, confirm ownership and check it once a month.

4. Your own analytics

If your analytics show visits from AI assistants as referrals, those visits are a signal that you are being cited and clicked. Treat the numbers as a floor, because many people read an answer and never click.

What a free tool can and cannot tell you

It can tell you whether your site is technically readable, whether your business details are marked up, and which obvious gaps to close first.

It cannot tell you why a particular competitor is recommended, how your mention rate compares across many questions, or how it changes over time. Answers from assistants vary from one run to the next, so a single test is a snapshot, not a verdict. Repeating the test monthly and recording the results matters more than any one result.

What to look for in any free audit tool

  • It explains what it checked. A bare score with no reasons gives you nothing to act on.
  • It shows what to fix first. A ranked list beats a long list of equal warnings.
  • It separates measured from guessed. Good tools say what they observed and what they inferred.
  • It does not promise mentions. No one controls what an assistant says. Be wary of any tool or agency that guarantees a result.
  • It is clear about your data. Check what the tool does with your website address and contact details, and whether it asks for card details for a “free” check.

When a free check is not enough

Move to a paid audit when you need to know why competitors are named instead of you, want results across a larger set of customer questions, or need a prioritized plan to hand to a web developer. The CoreTxt One-Time Deep Audit is $347 and delivered as a PDF report within 1 day, with a 90-day roadmap. See a fictional example in the sample report, or compare plans on the pricing page.

CoreTxt measures visibility and recommends actions. We do not implement the fixes, and no audit can guarantee that an assistant will mention your business.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free AI visibility audit tool?

Yes. CoreTxt offers a free AI Visibility Snapshot that scans your website for the signals AI assistants rely on and returns a readiness score out of 100. You can also test AI answers yourself for free with the free versions of ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude, and check Bing Webmaster Tools for citation data.

What is an AI visibility audit?

An AI visibility audit checks whether AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude can find, understand and recommend your business, then explains what to fix. Read the full explanation in What is an AI visibility audit?

Can a free tool tell me if ChatGPT recommends my business?

Not reliably on its own. A free website scan shows whether your site is ready to be understood. Whether an assistant actually names you has to be tested by asking real customer questions, which you can do by hand for free or through a paid audit that runs the questions for you.

Where can I find a free AI visibility audit tool for digital marketing?

Start with the free CoreTxt Snapshot for a technical check of your site, then test a handful of customer questions in the assistants yourself. The guide on how to test if AI recommends your business shows how.
